• NOT ALONE ADVANCES TO SEMIFINALS OF ZIPPO HOT TOUR |
|
|
Gilbertsville, PA – (July, 2006) Philadelphia region modern-rock band Not Alone has been selected as one of the top 80 unsigned bands in the U.S., advancing to the semifinal round of the Zippo Hot Tour sponsored by Zippo Lighters. The top eight bands from each of the ten major participating cities will perform live in September in their respective cities, with one finalist from each city advancing to the final round.
According to the official website (zippohottour.com), the 2006 Zippo Hot Tour saw a record 388 bands advance into the quarterfinal round where a record number of votes poured-in from around the globe to determine the semifinalists. The Philadelphia region (includes New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland) had nearly 80 contestants, one of the highest concentrations out of the ten cities. The semifinalists were determined solely by online voting from May through the end of June.
“The Zippo Hot Tour is such a great opportunity for young bands to get discovered,” commented Brent Smith of Shinedown (Atlantic). “Best of all, its real music fans that decide the winner. And, in the end, its all about the fans isn’t it?”
Not Alone members Tyler, Eric, Steve, Rob and Dave have been touring the Mid-Atlantic feverishly while bouncing in and out of the studio with producer David Ivory. “We have great fans and have worked hard while touring to spread the word about Zippo,” said Tyler. “We also had great radio stations that are spinning us helping with promo.”
According to Tyler, the band made several promotional radio live appearances including two four-hour road trips to Ocean City, MD where they interviewed and performed on-air with Skip Dixxon of Ocean 98.1 FM and Krazy Eddie of X106.9 FM. Both DJs have had Not Alone’s tracks in regular rotation for more than a year according to Tyler. Additionally Europe’s largest Satellite Radio Station, Pulse Rated Radio (which also has all of Not Alone’s songs in regular rotation) plugged the band heavily to a worldwide audience.
“We just feel really honored to have advanced to the semifinal round out of all of the great bands in this region. Thanks, so much to all who voted every day. It’s an honor that people feel this strongly about the music that we are making,” he said. “I haven’t seen who the other winners are in Philadelphia but I’m sure we know most, if not all of them, and we’ll be sending them a shout-out to congratulate them and wish everyone luck. It would be great to have a Philadelphia band take the prize again.”
The Zippo Hot Tour is now in its third year of giving one unsigned band the opportunity of a lifetime. In addition to receiving an estimated $100,000 in music gear and prizes, this year’s winner will tour with LA rock sensation Papa Roach.
The 2005 national winner was Jealousy Curve from Philadelphia who toured the nation in the world-class Zippo Hot Tour bus opening for the All American Rejects. The 2004 contest included Chris Daughtry who was a final contestant in the 2006 American Idol competition.
The other seven Philadelphia region semifinalists are: Grinder, Head, Pawnshop Roses, Stealing December, Synged, The Flood and Tripping Point.
